I'm creating a program that needs to be initially run as a normal user to get some information specific to the user but for certain functions requires root priviledges. I'm using linux..what would be the best way to do this?
By the way this is a gui using GTK.

How about explaining in detail what it is you're trying to do.

You can run the program as root and then use setuid() if you want to change to EUID. But is this secure, I am not sure :/
