which linux environement would you recemend ReadHat? Mandrake? slakware? looking for the best out there and won't settle for any less!

If you know very little about Linux, i would suggest that you install Mandrake or SuSE. I personally prefer SuSE because it's the distribution with which i started. It also contains several config tools that make administration easier for the novice user. you'll be up and running in no time.
i would stay away from Slackware unless you really know what you're doing...

I prefer to learn to master a experts interface than remaster for each step, I am in aspect a control freaki would stay away from Slackware unless you really know what you're doing...

I have looked at SuSu, the reason I included slackware in the ones to question was exactly because it was directed towards the more advance user.

Red hat, I have found is easy since alot of people use it, so the chance of running into someone with the same problem is more likely. Great thing about linux though is that they are all free. If you have the money I would recommend picking up a book, or a boxed version (SUSE is like only $15 on amazon)

take a look at freebsd www.freebsd.org which isn't exactly linux.
I have found that you can do pretty much anything with SuSE. I've been able to control everything... more than on other versions because SuSE comes with SO MUCH software. Even some great IDEs, 3D animation studios, etc... I am currently configuring it to do all my routing and firewalling. Even works great on a new laptop... I went for the DVD version boxed.

Depends on what you want...... i like redhat and mandrake, they both have their advantages, it depends on what ya wanna do. Just dont expect to play games on your linux box!

I have to recommend Mandrake, but Suse is also excellent... both are good for starters. I also recommend getting the boxed version... spend a little dough for a LOT of stuff... it's worth the money, trust me... I can't believe Witch King is even in this thread... is he ill?

I use Red Hat and have had no problems. I have heard good things about the improvement of Caldera but I haven't tried it out yet. I originally started with SuSE and played around with Mandrake (based off of Red Hat).
I'm satisfied with Red Hat for now.

It all depends on what you want
If you want a replacement for windows-Mandrake.
If you want support for Oracle, etc.-RedHat.
If you want to install packegaes from CLI over the internet-Debian.
If you want to learn UNIX you might be better served by using FreeBSD(not linux), considering all UNIX Operating Systems use BSD code.
The key is choice, there free systems tuned to just about every imaginable purpose.
