Question How to hide cursor in a Linux/Unix console?

I am looking for a way to hide the cursor in a Linux/Unix console, or at least move the cursor to a desirable position. I donít wish to permanently alter the cursor, just while my program runs in the terminal. I assume itís not as easy as in the windows dos prompt but hopefully it wonít include package instalment. Thanks in advance.

If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah
