Here is my problem..... I have to do a few programs/labs. Just simple shell programs but I can only do them on campus using Linux.
So my question is ...is there a program to simluate unix environment in windows XP? So i can just check if my program works at home and then run it on campus.
I don't think so but you can download something called knoppix You put the cd in your computer and it runs an os on your computer off of the cd. It has a linux shell. Will this work for you?

Look into cygwin.
Allows for *most* of the basic linux stuff. Does work on XP. Just a pain in the arse.
Knoppix is the better solution, but if you can't cygwin is an alternate.
I would recommend cygwin.
Normally I use slackware CD, if I want to do so.
It can boots, rescues, manipulates files in FAT32 partitions.
But problem is that it can't manipulate files in NTFS partition (just readonly), and its kernel in CD-R can't be recompiled.
I believe that all built bootable CDs provide standard kernel.
It yields inability of writing onto NTFS.
Cygwin itself stays on NTFS partition so it works fine.
I'm trying to download/set up Cygwin but my stupid computer is having problems.
Cygwin is good. But I would recommend MinGW because it is smaller. I develop program with gtkmm library in Windoze platform using this software. Try it.
Why don't you install Linux instead?
