    Linux Networking

Hi! This isn't really a programming question, but I'm going to go ahead anyways.

I'm planning on networking my two computers using a direct cable connection with my serial cable. I just need to know how to start the network in Linux...After I connect the two computers.

an excellent resource is linuxdoc.org I would help, but I've never tried a direct serial connect. Are you using null modems or two ethernet cards?

Hmm...Well, I know I'm not using two ethernet cards, but I don't know what a Null Modem is...I've never done this before, but all I know is that they are two serial connectors. Just a dual sided cable that connects to both computers.

to do direct cable connection you'll need a cross-over cable (serial or Cat5) the output wire on one side needs to "cross-over" to connect to the input pin of the other side (thus a cross-over cable) also call a null-modem cable.

4 or 5 years back I did that..
With com1 port with the help of NC in DOS.

Just connect both and .. I cannot remember all.. you have to initialize both at a time .. or someting like that.
