    newbie

    Hello,

I am new to Linux, I am mainly used to using UNIX at school and windows at home. I am thinking of installing Linux on my home computer, I was wondering what the advantages of me might be in doing this?? thanks for any input.

Complete control over your environment, no license to worry about, great programming environment and tools, etc. It depends on what you plan on doing with the system and if you're willing to put some time into overcoming the initial learning curve Linux has.

Lots of free technical software under Linux Not much games though. Slackware is not the best for beginners, but I have stuck with it ever since I was a Linux newbie You should try it too.

    I love Slackware!

I would suggest to re-partition and install linux in same computer.
I'm now using cygwin and redhat7.2. There are something different between them. If you are curious to learn, try real one.
