How are the colors for Linux console window defined and is there any function similar to gotoxy?

How to enable mouse input and "catch" the keyboard keys?

Does Linux have it's own API like Windows (WINAPI) and are there any functions specific for console window?

Does Linux console window has the screen buffer as it is for Windos console window?
