I tried the disk on a compaq computer and it worked o.k. so the disks are fine. It must be my hardware how can I get round this.
Any Ideas
this seems like the problem i had. u didnt divide up your HD. theres a special way u hvata give some of ur HD to qwindows and some to linux. so you have to logical but not pysical HDs. well something like that. linux needs 1-2 gb to be installed
Since task can't even get into the install portion then it has nothing to do with partitioning. I can just about guarantee it's an unsupported hardware problem since the machine is from a big manufacturer and they usually use OEM hardware which can be a doozie at times. Try taking out anything that you don't need like sounds cards and things like that.
i would bielive it. gay ass bill gates..Originally posted by [EMOBA]
You probably will get more help from another board where there members will offer you more help than "CD is corrupt". I doubt it's the cd's. While corrupt cd's can be a problem, it's rare if you have a dedicated connection, which i'm assuming you do since you've tried copying the .iso's several times.
If you want my guess (and that's all it is), it's a hardware compatibility problem. Check all of you hardware and make sure that it's on the compatibility list, which can be found on RedHat's site. For example, a buddy of mine had tons of problems with his Geforce 3 video card. It crippled the install in much the same way (screen would go blank during text install), but everything went fine when we switched them out... weird huh? Just make sure that EVERYTHING in you computer is supported. Let us know how it works out, and what the problem was...
