I installed Cygwin on Windows but it does not install the Emacs editor. I have no clue how to use Vi. If I install Emacs separately, how do I set it up so that I can run Emacs from the Cygwin console? I know that it has something to do with adding the name to the /bin directory, but I forget how to set it up, it's been 15 years since I ran Linux...but like I said, I'm on Windows using Cygwin.
Also, in what directory should a person put their programming projects. In ./usr/ ?

Nevermind I figured it out. There is a difficult to see menu where you have to manually choose to install emacs and gcc. Is that every hard to believe! The menu is so small that I ended up installing a million other packages. Even Visual Studio took less time to download. I could maybe have just used Visual Studio except that it is just a 30 day trial! I might end up using about 50 packages or so, but now I have thousands of packages that I downloaded for no purpose. Linux is now just like Windows. It is just torture. Even after a couple of hours it still has not finished installing and this is after I installed it the first time only to find out that nothing related to programming was installed, so everything is getting reinstalled.
Boy this is so weird. It must be some kind of competition to make things difficult. Well congratulations. Windows was easier except I forgot to read the fine print where it said that I had only 30 days to use the software. What a nightmare. I have to get revenge on the computers all over the world. I'll send my Angel.
