    New Girl

I don't know where to start to be honest so I have decided to create my introduction instead my name is Greta and I am from Tampa, Florida. I want to learn about basic programming as I can see that my brother earns an extra income by doing a home-based job aside from his regular job as a web developer. I am a freelance writer and some of my clients demand some help in programming which I am not that familiar with the reason why I have decided to join this community. I guess that's it for now. I will try to do some back reading.

Welcome! Have you made a choice of language already? This forum is C/C++ centric. For the latter, check out this list of book recommendations. I most often see Accelerated C++ recommended by different people.

Not to discourage you from learning C/C++, they are awesome languages, but they have a steeper learning curve and take years to master them and write proper code ready for production. Since your goal seems to be making big bucks from freelancing, I would suggest to start learning with a language like Python which is easier, has lot of libraries in the open and more importantly lot of freelancing work!!
    Good luck!

What platform it is going to be used too needs to be taken into consideration for which programming language is best suited for it.

WEB, NET, just command line, or is it "gui intense" with buttons and drop down list? data based or not data based saturated? It does not matter what programming language one starts with they are all going to have a learning curve. When you have good understanding of the logic in how to write a program oop aside but simple logic is still needed. It should still need a type of procedure to go from one thing to the next then the next.

Just because someone sees someone else doing something and making money off it, and it looks easy does not necessarily mean it is going to be easy for that looker on. Ones own aptitude needs to be factored in as well.

as far as C or C++ one can still learn it then just hone themselves into whatever area they want to use it in. To try and became a Master at it is just silly. Just learn it and become proficient with it in the area it is being used in. Because it can be used in a vast amount of area's.

Hi, Greta. you're not alone. I'm a starter too and willing to learn about programming or anything about IT related works. I'm sure, there are a lot who are willing to help us with our inquiries. By the way, welcome to the group!
