Is anyone else a fan of these math puzzles?

I got into these when I was younger, in some general puzzle magazines. I was recently at a book shop and saw a whole book of just these puzzles, which I eagerly purchased.
If Sudoku is the "checkers" of math puzzles, then Kakuro is most certainly the "chess" of math puzzles.
If you haven't heard of these, but enjoy math puzzles, I highly recommend them.

I could get into this. I tried sudoku, but it obviously wasn't for me - I was bad at solving them.
Well, Kakuro makes Sudoku look like child's play. But they are easy to find, so if you're interested, I would definitely recommend giving it a shot.
The book I got was full of "easy" ones, and it still takes a few hours to get through just one puzzle. But it's a lot of fun if that's your kind of thing.

- The "free-floating" representation is strange to me - I'm much more comfortable where everything is enclosed in a complete grid.
- The sums being places at both the top-bottom/left-right of the column/row are also strange to me.
Of course, these are not intended to be criticisms, just personal preferences based on what I myself am already familiar with.
But quality-wise, they look alright ... it seems like it'd be hard to make a "bad" Kakuro puzzle. Though not enough six to nine box series to make it a really fun challenge.

You aren't kidding. I only found the beast like an hour ago, but I'm already starting to sweat "How long would it take me?" from my subconscious.

The openness struck me as a bit odd at first, but I kind of think the lack of framing is to save on ink.
