so what does everyone think of the virus thats spreading?
I think it's intriguing that the US government has a patent on Ebola.
I don't know if it's going to spread in the US quite that easily, but who knows... this did make me ask my friends and family what I think is a fairly interesting question, though.
How many people in your city (or county if you're suburban or rural) would need to contract Ebola before you consider packing up and finding a new temporary residence?
Naturally, some people are tied more tightly to a home than others depending on their family, work, and financial situations... but I'm sure we all have a tipping point.

This is sort of hard to say. Most people have a sort of built in bias towards thinking everything will always be normal. Plus there are jobs to consider. Personally, if even 2 people got it in my town (about 10,000 people) I would start taking precautions (washing my hands more, ect). To the OP, I don't think we will have an epidemic here. Maybe I'm wrong, but hopefully medical science has good enough models of the spread of Ebola to keep it from spreading.

I don't think I ever would. Reason being that if there were a few cases, it wouldn't be enough to make me want to leave. If there were many (dozens of) cases, enough to make me consider leaving, then I'd realize that I might also be infected myself and I would not want to leave and spread it to other communities.
If my understanding of how ebola spreads is no longer accurate (because it is wrong or because the virus mutates) then I might be more inclined to consider leaving.
I thought it was currently spread only through bodily fluids. Just keep your distance and contain/burn the dead.
I was planning on skipping the Flu vaccine this year; but, because of Ebola I plan to get one.
This will result in less chance of getting a fever; since the main first symptom of Ebola is a fever I think it is worth the money.

That is the main way it spreads right now. In theory cough/sneeze might be enough to spread it.
If it does become bad in your area; I would suggest goggles and cover all open wounds.
The eyes and open wounds are the main places of infections.
I rub my eyes several times an hour so, I better find my Chemistry class goggles.

I don't think influenza antibodies would help much against ebola, do they? I actually know no biology so this is a real question. I thought vaccines worked by first harboring antibodies capable of defeating the disease so unless the influenza antibodies have capabilities of fighting the ebola virus, it won't help. Maybe it'd save you if you potentially could've had both viruses.
If your city has a few hundred people with ebola swapping the local hospital; you do NOT wish to go there for a high temp because it will likely kill you!
But, if you have a high fever and have Ebola and you do NOT it will definitely kill you NOT to go!
Getting the Flu Vaccine will reduce the chance of having a high fever!

I think if the influenza antibodies could be used to kill the ebola virus, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. The race is on for an ebola vaccine. If the influenza vaccine worked we wouldn't need another one. Influenza antibodies currently seem unable to kill ebola.

That's not the point. The point is to get the flu vaccine to reduce the chances of getting the flu (and reduce the severity if you do get it). If you do that, then there's less chance you'll get a fever that is *not* from ebola. stahta01 is trying to reduce the chances of getting a fever that is not from ebola, to avoid having to go to a hospital where ebola patients might be and to avoid confusing an ebola fever for a non-ebola fever.
