New guy has suggestion for code start and end tags

Since I'm new to the C Board its hard to remember what needs to go before and after the code that you insert in your posts. A lot of older members may think this is dumb, but progress is what makes the world a better place to live.

But why can't you just put like [start] and [end] in an area of a new post screen where users can just click on them and they get inserted just like a smiley face automatically. Naturally you need to substitute the proper code for start and end above.

LOL I used the proper word and my post looked funny

I never quite understood why we don't have a button for the code tag in a forum about programming. But I never cared to ask. Maybe it's a limitation of the vBulletin board and our admin can't change the buttons in the message box.

We did have a "code" button at one time but it got "lost" after one of the vBulletin upgrades.

There is a "#" button on the advanced reply form that inserts code tags if you want to use it. Don't suggest features that exist...(although I admit I just type [code][/code] for my posts)

What about my demands for a button that reads posts in Patrick Stewart's voice? Think of the possibilities, Mr.Worf!

I do miss that button in the quick reply bar though.

After having been bitten by pages failing to load and such, I usually type out my posts in an external text editor, so I pretty much always type out the [code][/code] bbcode tags manually.

If they do, I ask them to find the smallest example that exhibits the problem and send me that. Mostly, they then find the error themselves. "Finding the smallest program that demonstrates the error" is a powerful debugging tool.
