I'm not the author of Rust, the Mozilla foundation is. I didn't plan on spending the entire thread justifying the creation of Rust i must say, but then i didn't plan on finding such a generally negative attitude towards a possible replacement for C or C++ as i did.

See i'm of the opinion that we should be making tons of new languages, exploring new concepts and ideas. One of them might stick.

Edit:

As previously mentioned, people (myself, for one) still do use Fortran. Fortran didn't stop at the 77 standard, since then there have been many revisions to the standard: 1990, 1995, 2003, 2008, 2015 (coming soon).
Nothing against FORTRAN, just needed an example of an old language.
