    I did do a little performance comparison on my blog: Hazudra Fodder: DigitalOcean CPU and I/O performance

    Basically, their 2 core option beats the computers I have at home, and their 4 core option beats my work laptop, for compiling anyway. The big thing here is that they use SSDs. Realistically I'll either use their 4 or 8 core options for when I need to compile something quickly, and then if I want a "permanent" server I'll use their single core plans (5 or 10 USD a month).

    I used their San Francisco servers; about the highest I saw their download speed go was 7 MB/sec, but that was for a 50 MB download. It's probably faster than that for larger downloads.
