    You can always count on the news....

    ...to get it all wrong and blow things way out of proportion.

    The so-called Internet blackout today barely registered as a minor brownout.

    But it is nice to know that in the face of dire predictions we can always rely on our news agencies to be the voice of reason.

    What a bunch of morons.

    Dunno, maybe by playing the prophet, they actually saved many people from disaster. Kind of like Jonah and Nineveh, to use a biblical example, heheh.

If they do, I ask them to find the smallest example that exhibits the problem and send me that. Mostly, they then find the error themselves. "Finding the smallest program that demonstrates the error" is a powerful debugging tool.

    Only the news could make me double check whether I'd accidentally been infected with something I've never heard of before.

    Funny how the media never mentions that those people affected have tried to install fake Flash patches from porn sites - from which the virus started. So, these 210,851 or so "victims" are preverts.

    It's never discussed why the FBI put in their substitute servers just to be nice????? I doubt it. Surely they put those in to intercept, perhaps aid in tracking and understanding the virus. Plus as some have suggested, the FBI should have made those servers pop up a screen on user's computers that advises them they have a virus and how to fix it, rather than clandestinely pretend nothing is wrong. Something smells when FBI is doing something that prevents disruption of private citizen's computer use just to be helpful to porn addicts. I'm not saying I'm above that sort of thing. I'm just saying how by omission, the media is condoning it. Probably most journalists and politicians are the worst offenders.

    Talk about irony, when your post about the medias tendencies to blow things out of proportion ends up becoming a Fox-esque rant about how everyone who looks at porn is a perverted porn addict.

    Since when does one become a pervert for looking at porn? What defines porn? Nudity pictures? Playing a game where there is nudity? Watching a movie where there is nudity? Looking at a naked woman/man in real life? Tell me honestly you have done absolutely none of these things in your entire life. Then tell me, are you not a pervert, too, by your definition?

    I had a miniature heart attack because my cable internet just happened to puke out on the morning of the shut down. I couldn't figure out how all the machines in my house, most of which are non-Windows, could all be affected. Turned out a squirrel had eaten through a wire.
    Code:
    //try
    //{
    	if (a) do { f( b); } while(1);
    	else   do { f(!b); } while(1);
    //}

    That is hilarious.

    A squirrel chewing through a wire could definitely bring the internet down at any house. My dad had a similar incident a few years ago when a squirrel chewed through the cable leading to the power pole outside of his house. Apparently the little guys are not limited to eating cable wires and enjoy chewing through electrical wires. They are a major cause of many house fires

    Could be that's how the FBI are shutting down these servers - an army of covert, tech-saboteur rodents

    I heard the FBI pay was peanuts; but, did not know it was literately peanuts for some covert operators.

    You didn't think Fox Mulder was a man did you? Or Clarice Starling wasn't really a sort of bird?

    I'd say at least 60% off them are woodland creatures....

    So I guess the next doomsday we have to wait for is Dec. 2012? Are there any after that? It seems after Dec. 2012 there might be a drought of doomsday days. Someone will probably remedy that by fabricating yet another one.
