Just a thought, but I'd like to see a GUI subsection added. This forum already has everything else! Why not a section devoted to GTK+ and GTKMM UI programming?

Is there enough people here interested in that?
I could see splitting off GUI if all GUI stuff (including "GDI" and "Ultimate++" for example) was included and "repurposing" the "Linux" and "Windows" to system programing.

I would also be in favor of this. it could cover wxWidgets, Qt, Gtk+, etc, without weighing down the other forums.
Can someone please contribute a FAQ article to explain why adding a forum for every little aspect of programming leads to and unmanageable, messy and non-user-friendly community? You might think its stating the obvious, but it would make my life better as I can just link to it whenever this question arises in the future.

Are there enough people interested in GUI programming? Probably, I don't see why not. A lot of projects use them and most programs need them anyway. Unless they run on the command line, like nmap. Which has a ui counterpart anyhow. IMO, the best UI toolkit is GTK for C! This would be the best place to have a UI subsection. This forum is the most interactive and most frequented anyway.
Also, I don't understand why you would need to "repurpose" the Linux and Windows section as a result.
O_o
Well there's your problem.
Really.
You say "We need a GTK forum.".
I like functional programming with templates; clearly we also need a "functional programming in C++ with templates" forum.
I know some here prefer "Qt". Clearly we need a "Qt" forum.
That gets old fast.
As I said, I could see having a "GUI" forum because a lot of API are similar enough in nature that a lot of problems could be shared between them.
"Linux" system program and "Windows" system programming are pretty distinct even before the GUI aspects get involved.

@Fordy, I don't think would, as you so sarcastically put it, constitute as the"every little aspect" category. For one, programs need UI's! They are a huge part of programming! Without them we might as well use a freaking commodore 64! UI programming is what makes Ubuntu so friendly is it not? Well among other things but mainly the UI. Also, Linux is mainly built off of C. Idk, I just think it would be a great idea!
I'm driving with only 8% battery on my G2x. So, I'm not trying to argue about this. At least not right now lol I just think it would be a great idea!
>_<
Please tell me that you've not actually been "texting" while driving!?

Whatever @Fordy.
We do not need a forum for GUI. Post on the Windows forum or on the C# forum.
If 'too many forums' is bad, why do we have separate 'Tech Board' and 'General Discussions' ?
The 'general' discussion of our sort of people is more often than not, quite techy !
Also, what is the story with the "Brief history ..." board ?
They are supposed to be for two different things. Before the Tech board, anyone asking for help with something not strictly C or C++ related only had General Discussions and in those days it was even more "general" than it is now! The Tech board became a home to questions that were still technical and practical that probably deserved a place even if they were not strictly limited to C/C++. Even now I wouldn't say that its inclusion on this site is a bad thing
It was a read-only dumping ground for very old GD posts. The Webmaster moves a load of stuff over there when he wanted to slim-down General Discussions
