    Great News !

[Phoronix] Valve's Gabe Newell Talks Linux Steam Client, Source Engine

I'd be very upset if this is an elaborate hoax, though.

    O_o

A valid distribution channel isn't going to make developers suddenly see "Linux" as a target platform.

Don't get me wrong; I am happy to see this. It just doesn't mean that "AAA" titles are going to start popping up on "Linux" regularly.

Last time I tried Steam on Mac it worked fine, but the choice of games wasn't great.

Still the more software ported to Linux the better IMO

Some comments on the article over there hypothesized that Valve could be planning a Linux based Console on their own.
That could be a pretty convincing target platform.
If, hopefully, they do not reinvent everything (like android did), the binaries could run fine on normal desktops.

I'm not expecting miracles, but if this bolsters the Indie section and makes triple-platform releases the norm there then I couldn't be more pleased.

I've heard more than just hypotheses. I've heard (mostly) confirmed reports that valve is actually working on a steam console to compete with xbox and ps3. I don't know if it's linux based, but it seems like it will probably be a reality.
