Hrm, yes. Well look at that time! Have to go.

Do you have more information on this? I had the impression that most of these mechanical key switch types use a single spring, and indeed I have not been able to find a description of one that uses "two spring fingers standing up inside the switch housing that are held apart when the keytop is up".Originally Posted by CommonTater

Ok, a few updates:
I was able to play around for a few minutes on the Steelkleys 7G on a store downtown. The keyboard is an absolute dream. The feel of the keys, their size, spacing, their slight resistance to being pushed down, the simplicity of the keyboard design, the absolute feel of durability... gosh! I was completely in love. Dunno folks, but I'd get this over a Das Keyboard anytime. But... the noise. While having a buffed sound, it still is too loud indeed. So, with a broken heart, I'll have to skip it. Wouldn't be possible to bring this to my work environment, or even at home. I'm glad I did the test, being this an expensive keyboard. But I also deeply regret it; I now have a hole in my heart... and it hurts.
So, I'm back on the market looking for something that doesn't force me to buy another keyboard in 6 to 9 months.
- I'll be looking at Virtual Ace's suggestion, the Logitech K800.
- I'm considering whatever few rubber dome keyboards there are in the game segment, since these tend to be sturdier and last longer. I'm particularly looking at the Logitech G15. Also because of the macro keys which could come handy.
- I'm also looking at the Logitech MX 5500. The reason I'm looking at it though is also because it comes with the excellent Logitech MX Revolution mouse (a revised version of the dream mouse that is the MX 1100). But I'm not big on the fact this keyboard requires 4 batteries.
Pretty much stuck with Logitech, since I'm moving away from Microsoft keyboards and don't trust Genius. Any other supplier isn't directly represented here and RMAs would be a pain. If you have used any of these keyboards, let me know.
If all else fails, I'll probably go with this:

Ok. I got news... It seems I may have found the perfect keyboard (as suggested to me somewhere else).
Meet the Topre Keyboard.
This is an easy reading lightweight review: Here
This is an in-depth review: Here
This is a YouTube video showing the white version (the one I'm probably getting): Here
This is a YouTube video recorded with a high quality microphone showing the real sound of the keyboard: Here
This is exactly what I wanted. A high quality, durable, and long-life rubber-dome keyboard showing high production values, even if that means a more expensive keyboard. And boy, is this expensive... However I can probably guarantee a life of 3 years which is plenty of time to get accustomed to it so this baby just becomes an extension of my hands.
Now... to convince my wife my life will end if I don't buy this ~260 USD keyboard (and that will still require me to buy a numeric keypad)...
EDIT: I just saw that the British The Keyboard Company is selling some, possibly more interesting, models with a numeric keypad already and at an interesting price. They are all black, but if you notice carefully (click the image), the lettering is more visible than the original keyboards. I may go from here instead. Still a shame The Keyboard Company didn't request this exclusive in white...
