Sensationalism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In sort of the same light I found this quote, and by a nazi of all things.

"The people don't want war, but they can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country." - Hermann Goering.

I'm thinking either you don't quite understand the point of that old saw or you're seeking excuses...

The "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me" saying enjoins a person to learn from their mistakes. It's not victim blaming or any such nonsense. It's plain old fashioned common sense about learning from your mistakes. By the 30th time you have to think it's us not them, Mario...

    Fool me once

I always remember Gomer Pyle saying the old "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".

Not suggesting that people who fall for such things are rubes , but at some point you have to accept personal responsibility for propagating this BS.

There's more like a point I'm ready to accept, indeed. But let's not hide behind the politically correct. People who fall for these things can be rubes. Most of them probably are. I just don't see how anyone can do something about them. I can see plenty of things however that can be done to swindlers. So this whole "I don't understand how people can fall for this" is like trying to cover the sun with a sieve. It's about the most useless thing one can say about the whole thing.

Swindlers... well, this is a type of person I particularly despise, hence why I do get a bit emotional about the whole thing. It irritates me however that the people being conned always get the limelight and be exposed as stupid ignorant worth of a laugh. While the scammer keeps getting air time on TV and your local news. Frankly, there's no bounds to the level of egotism in our societies. We are quick laughing at the weak, ignoring it's those who prey on them the ones exposing and taking advantage of their weaknesses. And all simply because we love to see someone behaving more stupid than we do, just so we can get our daily feeling-better-about-ourselves fix. Bunch of blood sucking hypocrites!

    I said it.

    No!

I loved the overly complicated machines that Rube Goldberg created. Pee Wee Herman's big adventure introduced me to the world of RG, and it was awesomesauce.

Awww, so the rapture didn't happen - cheer up, it's not the end of the world.

If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

In the news at the moment, it seems the doofus in residence is forecasting a patch release of rapture 1.1 some time in October.

Didn't you know he is using hardcore mathematical equations to calculate the apocalypse from reading the bible! He probably forgot to carry the 1.

Probably had the calculator set to radians. That always gets me when I'm trying to predict the rapture...

Perhaps it's all down to the rather vague definition of PI
DOES THE BIBLE SAY PI EQUALS THREE?

In 2009, the nonprofit Family Radio reported in IRS filings that it received $US18.3 million in donations, and had assets of more than $US104 million, including $US34 million in stocks or other publicly traded securities. Source
Can someone fill an injunction now and can this person once and for all be investigate for fraud? Or... will he be allowed to die doing this, while giving his progeny a lifestyle that very few of us get to achieve after a life of honest hard work?

EDIT: For clarification, I know I'm reaching out. But what I find really bewildering is not that people fall for this crap, but that these scams are actually allowed and protected by law.

    Prophet for Profit.

Preachers are like politicians - you have to go a long way to find one who is honest and poor.
