choosing a college based on broadband availability?

i am so far browsing the whole day to look for forums like these. I need many opinions that I should weigh over through the reamining days. anyway, my son is about to start to go to school and wants to be enrolled to a school that has a broadband connection. is it really useful? will it make you really go to school if it has one?

guys help me, i need you here. had an encounter with this academicbroadband(dot)com that tackles about pros of having one. saying it is a basic needs, i am, yes, honestly convinced but I need to snap out of it! focus! is it an advantage to be too involved with it? or you think it's too soon to be involve? need thousand of feedbacks here.

Don't worry about it. I'm pretty sure that every university in the civilized world has had broadband since the mid 90's or earlier.
I copied it from the last program in which I passed a parameter, which would have been pre-1989 I guess. - esbo

    How old is your son?

You make it sound like, maybe, he's just starting grade 1 or something...

In Canada a lot of public and high schools are using wireless networking these days and it does seem to give the kids quite an advantage. The kids use laptops and access controlled URLs where they find their lessons... They can do quizzes on the day's courses and get immediate scores in return. They also have limited access to the web to do research for homework assignments... Overall they have a whole lot more information than your old books and rulers classrooms and I think it helps them quite a bit.

As has already been pointed out Colleges and Universities were the front runners in connectivity and have been using networked courseware for a very long time. I should be quite surprised to find any institution of higher learning that does not have connectivity in this day and age.

Why? So you can oppose it?

Get on the web look up some of the stuff relevent to your son's courses... ask yourself if you want to deny him access to this information?

Yah bot was my first thought aswell. However shouldn't there be some link in say the signature or so to some fishy website? A bot that doesn't promote anything and just posts random stuff isn't really useful

"i am so far browsing the whole day" - Google Search - A bot that only posts to one site. I find that unlikely.

You should consider your resources and what is takes to send your kid to a school with broadband. I would bet most public schools have it, mine does. If there are none near you that have broadband, is it worth it to spend the money to send them to a private school? You could get broadband at home, and save a couple thousand a year, for college, car, etc. It all depends on your individual situation, and whether it is proportionately worth what it costs with respect to how much you have.

A lot of countries are in a different situation as well. English doesn't appear to be the OP's first language, so maybe broadband in schools is more scarce in their country.

Growing up, none of the schools I attended had an internet connection except my high school. And that was only an ISDN connection and it only serviced the library. Of course, the world today is a much different place (unfortunately still no teleporters though). I would definitely say that a broadband connection is a huge benefit for studying if you can stay away from distractions, but how much of that is really done at the school? I'd think it would be much more important to have one at home.

Fixed the title (maybe) - I dunno, there's been a rash of crap titles in the past day or two.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
