    No Flash for iPod

Hey probably a little late to the party but a few days ago i was on the web with my iPad and needed flash so i went on over to adobe to download flash and it said that iPad iPod and iPhone can not have flash because apple won't let them. Why is this?

It would allow you to decide what you want to run on your hardware. Very bad.

If I don't get an android phone in the first place I will be sure to do that.

Be careful about your next phone OS.
Apple is a bastard that will do anything to goad you into staying in their walled garden, including taking away your rights and banning the use of GPL software.
Android is the newcomer kid in the block, missing features that mature operating systems have had for years, poor security and an extremely fragmented marketplace (each developer uses their own android version, interface, etc). It might even end up like Symbian in a couple of years!
Then there's Symbian which is getting popular again. The app store is getting flooded with apps and the GUI is being modernized. In a couple of years, it might make it into the top again.
Then there's Maemo, the second newcomer, which just boasts a Linux kernel and everything else is new. I have no bloody idea why they went ahead and created YET another OS, but watch out for this one. No one knows how it's going to turn out.

    EDIT:
Oh crap, how could I forget Windows Mobile? Yet another Apple in the making it seems. You're not allowed to run anything but what they tell you to, and the restrict what languages you may use to develop for the phone, etc. Beware.

Here's the rules for Flash on the iPhone/iPad/iPod:

You can develop apps using any language or tool you want, as long as the app runs natively on iOS.

You can run interpreted scripts in your app as long as the user writes them or they come with the app.

You cannot download scripts to run in your app. Any interpreted script that comes from outside the device is off limits.

Currently this still limits the options to Objective C, C and C++ pretty much, I think. You are still not allowed to compile against external libraries.

I think the big change was in interpreted languages. Access to C# was given through MonoTouch and you can use any language as long as you bundle the interpreter... which may be a problem if you don't have distribution rights though.

There are ways to use Flash and ActionScript without actually using Adobe Flash or Adobe anything. I would imagine this will come up soon with respect to Apple and their mobile devices. I'm actually surprised it has not been addressed yet. As it stands now there are technologies out there that are huge back-doors into the market using Flash/ActionScript without relying on an Adobe VM.
