    Updating tutorials

When will you decide to update the tutorials in this site? I've been here for almost 2 years and i still see the very same in there! For example, the OpenGL tutorials don't even scratch the surface of OpenGL. What about blending, lighting, texturing, transformations, display lists, vertex arrays, buffers, multitexturing, lightmapping, environment mapping, matrices ( not just the modelview ), fonts, ... .

I think you get my point!

When there are more ads than content, you know that the webmasters attentions are not towards providing a better user experience.

Oh I dunno... any idea how expensive it is to keep a site like this online?

I'm guessing at some point Fordy et al were faced with a choice between advertising and shutting down.

All I do here is mod, I dont have any of the responsibility for keeping this place running.

I do know that you cant keep a forum like this running on good wishes so as far as I'm concerned the advertising is worth having if it keeps the servers paid for.

I think the greatest contribution Cprogramming.com has given to the development community has been these forums. The tutorials and articles in the website pale in comparison and could never offer the same level or quality in education the forums have been doing since 1999 or 2000 (?). This is particularly evident to me when I think of a few things:

    - The community as a whole, IIRC, doesn't contributed to that content since at least 2003, when I first joined 7 years ago. Which pretty much reveals the lack of interest. I will go as far as saying most of us even forget there's an actual website that goes with these forums.

    - Rarely, maybe once or twice an year, do we see such a request to update or add new content to cprogramming tutorials and articles. Which reveals the lack of interest also by those seeking answers.

    - The difficulty in adding and maintaining a comprehensive list of articles and tutorials about programming in C++ was evident when a couple of years ago we tried to start a wiki. It's much more difficult if we now consider these boards actually handle 3 different programming languages.

Well, i actually tried to upload some games and source code i've been making but i'm no expert when it comes to internet and i was confused how to do so.
As for tutorials, i don't know how this website operates. Maybe you could fill me in...

The rare request of updates may also mean that this site covers the needs of its users.
So, you're saying that adding more tutorials is going to be too difficult to perform? Then i suggest, as a program has its cycle, that a new forum is created to be able to cope with the new standards.

"Adding" tutorials? You do mean write, compose and publish, right? Go on, write an article and I'm pretty sure it won't be too difficult for the webmaster to add the article that you wrote (or however it works). Or did you really expect that the webmaster has time to write all kinds of tutorials and articles? Tutorials are obviously written by users. You are one. Start working on it.

What exactly do those articles have to do with the forum? No one is going to leave this forum because another site that might have more up to date articles also has a forum.

You started this thread saying they don't. Now you think they might. Confusing...

Anyways, no they don't. It's not necessary to take a look at the list of tutorials and articles to know evidently they don't. The topic of C++ programming in particular, and programming in general is to broad to be able to be covered by tutorials and articles. Even a single topic as trees, might require multiple tutorials to just scratch the surface.

I don't see any value in making those, frankly. Either you are willing to be thorough as Julienne (a member of these forums) did over there, or you shouldn't bother as they will do more harm then good. The web is full already of incomplete or inacurate-due-to-incompleteness tutorials and articles on programming. And if you do want to do in-depth coverage, you should follow her lead by taking full control of the text and maintain it yourself on your own website, without having to depend on cprogramming admins.
