    Program Idea Getting

You can tell two things from the title
    1. I don't write good titles
    2. I am bored
    3. I said two things
    4. I want to start a project
    5. I should top numbering now
    (Titles say a lot)

Ok so my real question is how do you get an idea for making a program that people will like. I want to make some shareware and stuff but dont know how to go about getting ideas. Do people just get ideas or do they think about things they should make?

    6.That was a horrible joke

Do something you need. That's the trick.

    LOL, I envy your boredom.

The #1 programming project that I would undertake just for fun, would be to build an OS from scratch. It would be incredibly rewarding. Not that I would expect to make anything that usable, but it would be just awesome, and a good way to test some ideas I have.
You could look in to that.

He wanted programming suggestions, not to be fed to a minotaur.

Figure out what you like and how programs can help ... you... like it more.

You just randomly choose a project to participate in

Find something you enjoy, see if there are good programs out there to help with that hobby, and if not, write one.

E.g. if you're in to foreign languages, write a language study tool. If you're into sports statistics, write something that tracks stats and crunches numbers. Etc.

In general, try to be realistic when you start out (e.g. a full 3D modeling program is probably overkill, but a plugin or something to help manage a tool chain might be reasonable).
You ever try a pink golf ball, Wally? Why, the wind shear on a pink ball alone can take the head clean off a 90 pound midget at 300 yards.

Thirded, I started making useful things when I needed some AutoCAD automation and some additional functionality for Audacious.

Oh... I didn't mean that. And thanks every one for the suggestions.
