    Is Inception worth my time?

    For those of you who seen it already, did you feel rewarded?

    I'm hoping for not another Minority Report style of sci-fi. I'm more the Dark City or Gattaca type. Will I get Minority Report instead? I'm not (and rarely ever was) in the mood for a sci-fi excuse to do an action movie. I like my sci-fi, sci-fi.

    Haven't seen it yet, but have heard that it's really good. Oh, and I actually enjoyed Minority Report quite a bit, personally.
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }

    Yeah. Most people did. I didn't particularly enjoy it
    Not that I actually disliked it. Watched it once, nodded approvingly and didn't watch it since.

    I'm going to venture that you're real aversion is to Tom Cruise (people seem to either hate him or love him). Or was it the actual plot/execution of the film?

    I trust spill with my reviewing needs. They gave it a pretty good review, and discussed its problems. It's nothing that I care to repeat, because I would fail, so just get the review: Spill Chromeless with Age

    I personally thought it was great, but I'm into those kinds of things.

    Everything fit together very well, in the end. Despite the fact that people on forums everywhere are having endless debates about things in the movie, from what I saw it all wrapped up neatly with very little to be misunderstood. It was creative, complex, and didn't really leave you asking "What happened and how?"

    Yeah, it was the film. Don't have many issues with him as an actor. Really liked Jerry Maguire (but maybe more because Cuba Gooding Jr. absolutely rocks in that movie), his part in Tropic Thunder is unforgettable, Magnolia, very good in War of the Worlds too.

    Minority Report... I don't know man. Maybe I went to see it with the wrong expectations? I felt the core story of future prediction to fight crime completely ludicrous. Both the actual thought of it, but also how it was implemented (computers, swimming pool, balls...). Also, I couldn't think of a worse use you could give to such a power.

    Then there's just no real story here. The film gives itself away too soon, even for the least attentive spectators I think. It hardly makes an effort to explore the society relationship with the precogs and creates a strange, eerie and almost impossible emotional detachment between it and the precogs. As if these were just machines.

    I found all this killed my suspension of disbelief. I felt a bad story was badly told. And yet, the idea behind it had a lot of potential. Never read Philip K. Dick novel. But I bet he explores the concept to its fullest. Of course, then there's all the dumb superhuman action and whatever, and it only contributed for my general disinterest.

    Didn't know about these folks. Thanks, citizen. Seeing Dark City quoted there is one big eyebrow raiser. It's among my favorite science fiction movies ever. But one can see some of the influences there indeed. Not just some of the special effects, but also the idea of puppets and puppeteers.

    Didn't mean to ignore you, Sly. Only now noticed your post.

    Yeah, that's a bit turn on for me. I don't like to be left asking questions too much. Depends, but generally I don't. That's one point for it. Especially given the theme of the movie. Those guys at spill also addressed this.

    Personally, I make it a point not to read any reviews before actually seeing a movie.

    Nothing worse than walking into a movie with my head full of prejudgements(yes, I made this word up) by other people(critics).

    I generally watch movies if I like the genre ie. sci-fi, horror, or I like the plot, rather than what actor is in it.

    EDIT: I didn't like Minority Report the first time, but I grew to like it when I watched the DVD a few times. This is usual for me with most films.
