I think it is common practice to look at successful companies and then attempt to demonize them as being nefarious and evil in everything they do. No company is perfect but if anyone seriously thinks Google is out to take over the entire world through information they are a pure unadulterated idiot. But fear and worry sells magazines, webzines, and generate millions of internet hits.

I've received far more help and assistance from Google and Google maps than I have from any of the idiots claiming Google is the devil. Modern science and understanding tells me that the boogey man is not waiting around every corner. Life is not as nefarious and dangerous as the internet and the news make it out to be. So what if Google is capturing Wi-fi? Who cares. Ok, so they can look at nudies with the rest of us while they drive around and take pictures of boring roads - big deal.

    New article... June 22, 2010

"More than 30 states are considering pooling resources to investigate whether Google Inc. illegally tapped private information from unsecured wireless networks while collecting photos and data for its popular Street View feature."

"Several U.S. states have been individually looking into the case, which follows formal investigations in Germany and Australia."

"However, along with the names of the Wi-Fi networks, Google was also collecting private information that was traveling across those networks — much of it from people who had failed to password-protect their personal networks."

"In the three years that its fleet of cars has been roving the streets, Google says it has collected 600 gigabytes of unsecured data."

Google's data collecting is subject of multi-state investigation - latimes.com

Yes, I will demonize them, thank you very much.

Anyone who has to publicly state they're "not evil" (one of Google's mottos) I deeply distrust by definition.

If a government agency did 10% of the data collection (of privacy sensitive data) and distribution to 3rd parties that Google did there'd be a public outcry like you've never seen before (and rightly so).
Yet it's a company that has "not evil" as its motto so everything is AOK?
    Don't think so.
