thanks you for your understanding but i am paranoid for a reason, the internet is a scary place to be thats why i dont use it much. People have their identitys, locations and work taken from the internet that why i am making such a big fuss. I appreciate the help just dont understand why isn't there a button to delete your posts? I hope the moderators understand my concerns too
If you were so scared, why didn't you make your user name 12ABC34XYZ or something completely arbitrary--and generate a completely different arbitrary username for every site you ever log into? We've already explained why there aren't buttons to delete your posts.
What would happen if everyone with over 5000 posts decided to hit the button all on the same day? The site would lose a massive number of informational posts. Sure, we BS and shoot the bull from time to time, but on rare occasion, I do actually provide something useful.
There's a chance that someone else may come along with the sort of issue you needed help with, and received help with, and they may learn from that. If you didn't need help -- you didn't need to learn something -- why did you come here to ask for help? So it's OK for you to ask for help, and to receive it, but it's not OK for someone else with the same issue to benefit from the help you received?
That's pretty selfish.

hmm swearing? against forum policy? if you do some research dude you will realise i am telling the truth the goverment cannot keep your CCTV tapes if you ask them not too its called data protection act. anyway....
You can't please everyone all the time. Likewise, one person cannot understand every concept. This (the benefit of not deleting posts) appears to be one you cannot understand. Accept it and move on.

I assume you mean this Data Protection Act. Section 10 sounds promising (Right to prevent processing likely to cause damage or distress), but that does not mean anybody has to destroy the tapes; only that it cannot process them (and of course you have to be prepared to claim damage or distress). Section 14 (Rectification, blocking, erasure and destruction) also sounds promising, but you can only apply to have things erased if you can prove to the satisfaction of a judge that the data on the tape is inaccurate. I don't see any other sections that provide for elimination of data.
(Not that this has anything to do with the actual question at hand, of course.)
good research dude but there have been many people in the UK who have have had their tapes of them CCTV burnt even though it was nothing to do with anything. Data can be eliminated as long as if there is no criminal offence taking place
Such as taking pics of West Minster Abbey or something?

I think you can delete your thread within a certain timeframe, if it has had no replies.
You can also delete your posts to any thread within a certain timeframe(I think within hour).
OS: Linux Mint 13(Maya) LTS 64 bit.
I think the idea is, once other people have posted in the thread, the thread is not yours anymore. People volunteered their time to respond knowing their response will help not only you, but also other people with the same question.
That is the basic premise of the concept of a forum. If you just want one on one help that no one else can benefit from, email works just as well.
By removing "your" thread, you are devaluing all the effort everyone has put in to this thread.
I probably won't reply to any thread if I know they will be removed by the author once the author's question is answered, and I won't be surprised if many people think the same way. For the same reason, many of us won't help over PM, IM or e-mail, because why help only 1 person when you can help many with the same amount of time?
Forums also encourage discussion. Even as we are answering questions, we are learning from each other at the same time. Personally, that's what attracted me to this forum.
I will answer questions, and people will jump in and tell me I am wrong, and so I learn.
"Your" thread is not really yours.
Now is a good time to mention that, yes, the forum is searchable, and many answered questions can be easily found. This has more benefit to people who will search in the first place, but I've seen it happen, and tried it myself. In fact if you say "I already looked at the W thread, but I still don't understand X, I want to do Y," then more people might reply to you, and theoretically give you a better answer, because you tried.
Think of it like we're all lazy bastards, I guess, but a forum is for archival.
Closed folowing request
This is forum policy. It is clearly stated at the top of every programing forum in the [url=http://cboard.cprogramming.com/cplusplus-programming/announcement-homework.html]homework[/ur] announcement. If you don't want your request for help public, don't make it publicly.
We are a community that encourages people to learn from each other. That means having the ability to learn from other people's questions and ideas. Our more experienced members give their time and knowledge to help others learn. They don't post just to answer the one question, but also so anyone else can learn from it as well. Thus, we do not delete threads simply to hide ideas from other people. It defeats the purpose of this kind of public forum. I know this can be troublesome or upsetting to some people - especially those asking for help on homework assignments - that is why the policy is so clearly stated.
