    Assuming you use Windows:

    1. Press "Print Screen" (may look like "PrtScn") on your keyboard to take a screenshot.
    2. Open "Paint" or whatever graphics program you have on your computer.
    3. Press "Ctrl+V" or click "Paste" in the menu to paste the screenshot.
    4. Decrease the dimensions of the screenshot if need be. (I assume you know how to do this using cut and paste techniques).
    5. Save this as a PNG or JPG file.
    6. Come to cboard.cprogramming.com.
    7. In a reply, click "Manage Attachments"
    8. Find the file you saved. Attach it.
    9. Badda bing badda boom, you're done.

DavidP, I guess the OP is having trouble with No.8.

The interface might not be a lot intuitive, but hey you can't really expect the forum software to throw a warning like a compiler:
    "Initialized Attachment was never used"
    :0)

    Code:
Your jpg has spell check. Sweet.
Amazing isn't it?. Mie mcahnie cna't sntad spellng mishtakes tath evn iamge eiditing sftwoare smees too crocet tehm. ;-)

Edit:Hmm... Looks like that part seems to be unnecessary.
The image is attached at the end anyhow without selecting it from the select box.
    Nevermind.

I know the above is just flame-bait but why should we have to waste money on an OS we don't want so the poster could report an error?

    We don't.
But then the poster isn't required either to provide a file that we can read. If they want to give a word file, they give a word file and that's it. And those who can't read it may entertain themselves counting the bytes one by one.

OK I will make sure to report stuff that would be served by a JPG or plain text by reporting it in TeX.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

    Sure. I can read TeX.
But you obviously missed the point.

Not at all; I could bend my tools to read the .doc file too. I just see an efficiency in posting things that can be read by *all* without resorting to translators, etc. It is called common courtesy. If someone won't go to the effort to publish information in a format that can be natively read by all, perhaps it is not worth reading. Everyone regardless of platform can read PDFs, common image formats such as JPG, PNG, etc.

The latter suggestion is the free alternative which I'm sure was deliberately suggested to counter the argument you made anyway.

That said, you don't even need to dual-boot considering there are dozens of options, including ReactOS or small Linux / BSD operating systems with X server that can be run from a Live CD or a thumb drive. The point is, there is really no reason to complain that you can't read the file so the whole discussion should be dropped and focus should remain on the OP's original question.

I'll put it slightly less diplomatically.

Take your head out of your ass. DOC is a common file format. If someone is too lazy to download a free office suite to read a common file format, perhaps it's not worth the effort to educate them as they are too lazy to do anything with the information. It's not like they posted it in some oddball format like a binary copy of a Selectric data tape.

Wow and I was logging back in to apologize. Binary is a common file format too but that doesn't mean that all documents should be sent that way. In any event your rudeness provides illumination to the value of your argument that anyone should download a hundred megs of office suite to view what is at the end of the day a text file.

However I am not here to learn about the .DOC file format but rather that which binds us all, the C/C++ development language and techniques. I am sorry that you felt the need to react as you did; it was not my intention. Microsoft file formats are certainly not common in this household but that is a choice we have made and are happy with.

    Hope you feel better.

    Peace

It's actually your browser doing the spell checking, no your image editing software - right? (I'm hoping not )

Finally I've done it. Thanks DavidP and stevesmithx. Also I attached it as doc file coz I thought it would be a common format to view files. I didn't mean any heated talks here. By the way I haven't noticed the error after reporting it on this forum.

DOC is a proprietary and closed format controlled by 1 company (Microsoft) that can only be opened by 1 program (Microsoft Office) that costs a few hundred dollars and only runs on one of 2 OSes (Microsoft Windows and Mac) both of which cost almost as much.

In terms of real-world wide-spreadness, most Mac machines don't have it, and no Linux machine has it. That would at least be 20-30%. This is a form of discrimination, and that's why no government documents, school assignments/documents (at least for my school. File titles suggest they are created using Microsoft Word, but they are always published in PDF), or documents published by larger corporations, are published in DOC.

Sometimes it's necessary evil (to use a closed format), for example for very domain-specific programs, but in this case, far better alternatives exist. Image formats (some of which are completely open and free, like PNG), PDF, plain text, etc.
