Thread: mobile devices section?

There are forums for this already. IMO, boards that have a definite and clear focus work much much better than ones that try to be everything to everybody.

Eg, you could have "www.programming.com" with forums:

• C
• C++
• Fortran
• Python
• Lisp
• BASIC
• BASIC++
• Crochet
• ASM
• HLA
• Your mom's 3rd cousin
• Perl
• Pascal
• Abstract Expressionism

well, this is just an abbreviated list, but you get the idea.

Of course, the question now is, how to divide sub-realms: eg, you can do "Database Programming" in any language, but it would probably be better to have a "Database Programming" section for each language -- to prevent confusion.

Really, I would consider "mobile devices" a subcategory of "embedded programming", which (to be fair) is probably mostly a C or assembly realm. We do have a "Game Programming" section, which is mostly a C++ realm -- altho (to be fair) you can write games in any language.

Of course, there is also a network slash DEVICE programming section, which might as well include MOBILE DEVICES but I would say people tend to ask embedded questions in the C forum. Sometimes they also go in the linux forum, because the linux kernel is used a lot in embedded devices.

Then again, perhaps I am being totally ignorant when I lump a smart phone in with embedded devices.

Which is a good reason to have forums dedicated to specific topics. This is the C/C++ board. Its focus is more academic than applied, and it is good that such a place exists. It is not the only forum I use, and altho it is kind of my fav , it is not the best one for everything. Why would it be?

I would say, for more specialized tasks, you should seek out more specialized places. THEY ALREADY EXIST. THERE IS NO POINT IN DUPLICATING THEM, THIS ONLY DIFFUSES THE RESOURCE YOU SEEK TO ACCESS. How many "mobile device" forums do you need?
