How many edits does it take?

Just wondering how many edits you have to do in your posts before you feel like it conveys what you want in the tone you want?

There is so much room for misunderstanding on a forum I find myself reading and re-reading my posts as well as editing and re-editing several times before I am satisfied with the result.

Hehe... I feel ashamed on this one. But better let the skeleton off the closet:

I think I count recently 7 successive edits to a single post in 5 minutes after posting it for the first time. And I'm pretty sure I've done worst in the past.

    - Most of the time is another thought that just came up as I'm stll thinking on what I wrote.
    - Second biggest reason is changing text because I feel I'm not expressing myself well
    - Next comes typos (lots of these as I type too fast for my own good)
    - And I've also edited posts in order to format them because I think that will help the reading.

All in all I truly feel I'm hopeless.

(1 edit, so far just to add "And I'm pretty sure I've done worst in the past.") Slap me!

It takes me at most 1-2 edits to convey myself clearly on this forum. About 90% of the time it's because of typos I make coz I dont get accuracy and speed at the same time. And rest of the time(English not being my first language), I try to make the things easy to understand for me adn to the reader also. Sometimes I dont get a proper word to express myself, that's the most irritating thing for me to get stuck into. You're writing in full fledge and suddenly you get stopped because you dont have words to express yourself. That's the time when only one word comes up in my mind..................DAMN
    HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND.......

By associating with wise people you will become wise yourself
It's fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure
We've got to put a lot of money into changing behavior

I take the time to think while typing and then edit it before I post. I simply live with typos that don't change the meaning.

I don't know why, but I don't manage to notice typos/errors/missing words nearly as well in the little box as I do in the forum proper. (Granted, FF does give me red squiggle spell check, but that often gets ignored since it doesn't recognize code.) So I've got in the habit of basically not even trying to proofread until it gets posted, and then edit right away. So a lot of posts get one edit for typos/etc. Usually edits for content get the ever popular "edit:" tag.

Agreed on the first... disagree on the second. I get anal when I have a typo (that I notice) in my post. Granted, I'm not the most articulate guy in the world, so there are probably tons, of, mistakes, in, my posts that I don't see... but when I do see them I have to fix them. That said... I really try to get my ideas expressed the first time around and the only time I'll edit the idea of the post is when I re-read what I've replied to and realize I misunderstood the question or opinion of that person. I will say this, though... there have been times where I've let a post sit around half complete for a few hours simply because I couldn't word my thoughts well.

Wrote something not too long ago that's about 835 words. First I proofread for grammar. I've read it four times, and I'm still finding typos long after I submitted the final draft.

I don't put thought into any of my posts, haven't you noticed?

Sometimes I'll edit it once or twice, but that's usually to correct code mistakes.

Usually, I'll proofread my posts to prevent from having to edit - but it doesn't always help, even after reading it, I sometimes see problem. What can I say? Communication isn't my strong suit. But I guess I can like or dislike the fact that neither is it anyone else's.
But, most of the time I edit because of a grammar (or sometimes spelling if I'm not on FF) error.

I like the logic there, it's probably a IO bottleneck Yarin

I have a bad habit of often adding material in the first five minutes or so, because I think I've said my bit and then something important occurs to me.

I take my time writing posts, usually, which is why Quzah can beat me to an answer . . . . I tend to edit my posts quite often, usually to add new material, but not usually more than once. Oh, and I always mark the added material with [edit] [/edit], because one of the most annoying things to me is when someone changes a post without indicating how it was changed.

I tend to be a fairly self-conscious person when it comes to online communication; I'm constantly monitoring what I say and how it might be (mis)interpreted by other people. Most of my posts come 'pre-edited' before I ever hit the post button, so I only ever edit if there's a particularly embarrassing typo, or if I've said something that might offend people.
