I agree !! No use in diluting efforts. It is always better to finish one task and go to next. I did a quick search and found an older article Is Multitasking More Efficient?

edit: after i think about it some more maybe studying 2 programming languages is not the same as "multitasking" if performed on different days.

But still I think it dilutes effort and not effective.

The C standard has undergone 2 revisions since the publication of that book ie. C89 & C99. Modern compilers have incorporated the newer standards too.

If you are serious about programming in modern C, update your text.
