I'm absolutely a Nokia fan when it comes to cell phones but still i would not waste time programming for Symbian although C++ is native to it.

My point is that Microsoft is the shizzle when it comes to 'programmable' systems... by that I mean most of the software market targets Microsoft (applications, games, entertainemnt...etc). And so by doing a very 'programmable' hand-held computers (something similar to iPhone), they would boost the world of software market that targets their platforms plus more importantly, they would attract C++ and C# programmers to do their stuff instead of doing Objective-C for the apple.

You dropped your phone about 20 feet and it still worked?

The iPhone operating systems is one among many others, Hussain. It's not even close to be the most popular.

    - Microsoft was already on that market, long before iPhone showed up, with their own Tablet PC. Meanwhile Windows CE was at the start and powers today more smartphone brands and models than Apple can even start to dream on with their own closed approach to hardware. Meaning smartphones running WinCE = many. Smartphones running Apple own OS = 1.

    - Symbian OS is actually a quite popular operating system and much desired by many software developers or software geeks over it's open source approach. You may not like it, but ask any mobile developer and they'll swear over symbian based phones and how easy... and cheap... it becomes to develop for this platform.

Look at your initial post, and invert the terms. Ask instead why, oh why, doesn't Apple do more on the market of smartphones.

EDIT: And I didn't even mention Microsoft mobile devices development platform which is integrated into Visual Studio off the box. The same environment, the same technologies, for different devices. I want to see Apple beat that. Really, I do. We need more players.

Yup - landed on concrete too. Made one of the corners nice and rough, but that was it.

Yes, I mean the iPhone. The iPhone is vendor locked while every other cell phone out there isn't. Oh, that's just wondrous, Apple! We get to pick only the one vendor YOU choose!

Didn't know the iPhone did that.

Granted, I have the same amount of interest for an iPhone as I have for a vasectomy.

I've never had any desire to buy a cell phone that is anything more than just a phone.
These days it's almost impossible to find a cell phone that doesn't come with all kinds of other useless crap to drive up the price and lower the battery time... I don't need a phone with a CPU fast enough to play MP3's or watch videos or anything else. I just want a phone (and maybe a camera, in case I need to take a picture for insurance or something). I don't want chat, I don't want mp3s, I don't want video, I don't want games...

But there's always the cheaper models, isn't there?

No. You still need friends to get use out of "the cheaper models." The last thing I did with my phone was update myspace with it.

Everyone I know who purchased an iPhone complained soon after about almost every 'feature' of it. It is Apple who dropped the ball long ago and ever since then they have been attempting to recover.

I think the era of small, hand-held has really begun. And it's all you need for fun.
How is it fun to get a huge pain in your neck and a huge headache from staring at such a small screen?

They are about games and applications, not work.
Most people who purchase the devices you are talking about actually do use them primarily for work.

Microsoft is sort of dying away in terms of physical device portability.
How so? Windows CE does just fine. Besides they pretty much own all of PC-dom and almost all of console-dom. If they really wanted to I believe they could beat Apple in the hand-held market as well. But a company needs to focus on doing a couple of things and doing them really well. When you over-reach what you do well then you end up doing nothing well.

Dude, if that's the light you're talking about, then the light has been around for a loong time. Past version of Windows Mobile have been "powered by" Windows CE, just like many other mobile operating systems. Soo... the first answer you got on her was the answer you just found.

Just be careful you don't walk into a pole or something in the midst of your enlightenment

Being somewhat old fashioned, I have to leave my computer at home, sanity-wise. Still, I am somewhat jealous of the phone-uplink craze -- I really want some kind of cranial implant eventually, and figure I will be left behind with my ineptness (the last time I owned a cellphone, it was an incredibly light 700g!)
    C programming resources:
GNU C Function and Macro Index -- glibc reference manual
The C Book -- nice online learner guide
    Current ISO draft standard
CCAN -- new CPAN like open source library repository
    3 (different) GNU debugger tutorials: #1 -- #2 -- #3
cpwiki -- our wiki on sourceforge

    :P

Since English is not my first language, i really do not know how to put it in words!!
I know that Windows CE has been around for a long time but still it is not competing very well in the world of software.

People love to program things for microsoft, that's why almost all applications target microsoft. But i do not think that they love to program for Windows CE as much as desktop OS, like 2000 and newer versions (XP, vista, 7).

What I think is that there should be more and more development for hand-held computers because after all cellphones now are not what they were 20 years ago. They are computers
