Thread: Evony cleavage ads.

As much as I enjoy seeing a nice pair, these ads make me uneasy about browsing cboard at work on my break. (It's not only cboard; these ads are just about EVERYWHERE.)
This is the first time I've ever considered using Adblock or something similar, although I would really prefer not to as ads help support the forum.
Is there any way to turn these off, or is the rotation controlled by the google?

Evony is an aweful game, by the way. I tried it a few months ago. If you're ever tempted to try it, I'd say don't waste your time.

If the Evony ads are served by Google Adsense, the webmaster of this forum can block those ads using the "competitive ad filter" setting of their Adsense setup.

On my own website, I use the filter to block ads which are not relevant to the content of my site.

I also do not like those Evony ads. One shows a sword held threateningly against a woman's well endowed chest whilst she has a fearful look on her face. The ads are either borderline sexual in nature, or imply violence against women.

If it was only the false advertisement...
They are spammers too.

I got tired of seeing those horrible and stupid ads after 4 days, and used a solution posted by Perspective in one of the other threads.

Plus a few extensions on firefox keeps everything ok for me.

Not really, no. I was totally unaware of it, exactly because of my 2 year successful experience with ADblock (contender for best plugin in computing history), until I read about it some weeks ago on Jef's article (sorry, but I hate the word "blog". Oh, dammit! I said it) linked above by crowe.

I have seen the progression of the advertisements towards something entirely boob-based myself, but the way it is presented in the blog post crowe linked to is hilarious

I used to play civ, and had been curious about this completely new game element. So now I'm guessing it's actually not an element at all, which makes the ads kind of funny in a psych-trick kind of way.

Since you would have had to play the game to find out ("Hmm, I can't seem to find the queen here anywhere..."), adding an "insider" gag in the ad is clever: Like, now you know, but you're still coming back for more anyway, right? Also, one of the new ones is obviously a Vanna White ringer ("Can I buy a vowel?").

According to the blog post that stated that the queen is a lie (Dubious “Civony” Game Uses Costume Photo), their FAQ actually addresses the question of saving the non-existent queen.

I guess it's nice the costume people aren't mad about anything. I quite like the "Adult Forest Fairy" look.

I totally see it totally other way around. It's pathetic that advertising is such a huge industry at all -- except that it would be the best way to tell everyone you are selling something. So to say the honest and informative add deserves success whereas the "bad tasting" comic one does not seems oxymoronic. They are both in your face and self-interested. I'd rather be amused than hear about the latest gas mileage stats for some SUV.
