    Google Chrome OS

    Official Google Blog: Introducing the Google Chrome OS

    Have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, seems like another pipe dream, wasting time and community resources. Seems like a good cause, on the other.

    Maybe... if the user interface is made attractive, they can pull it off. Given the type of consumer being targeted, I can't think of anything more important.

    Ah, a new Linux distro with their own windowing system. I'm interested to see what they do differently than other distributions.

    There had been rumours (and I think Google confirmed it) about Google having their own Linux distro for their internal use.

    I, too, fail to see the purpose of this OS.
    An OS is not just the web - on the contrary. It is but ONE of the things that an OS must make sure works properly.
    Unless they're radically going to create a new OS from the ground-up for tomorrow's needs (such as better multi-threading, security, scalability), I don't see why we need it...

    I was pretty disappointed when I read it was going to be a web based OS. But if anything it will give Linux and the open source movement more recognition which they could really use.

    I remember about 4 years ago, when my dad was telling me how Google'll eventually make an OS.

    It's not a bad idea to make an internet based OS. However, though it may make doing stuff on the internet nice, you'll have a hard time doing anything else. A computer does existing for more than the internet. I could see an OS like this being awesome for public portals, but pretty much useless to any individual. (on the other hand, I don't like Chrome, and yet, millions use it, so who knows)

    I fail to see why they must make an OS and not an application for the web ideas.
    What is so great about the "web OS"?

    I think it's going to be a great OS as it is developed by the big G. My only concerns are privacy.
    Of course, Richard Stallman is going to be very mad when it comes out.

    Edit:

    It would be interesting to know how they are going to manage the issues like cross browser compatibility and what web technologies are going to be used. Are they going to port the entire linux kernel to a web scripting language such as javascript?. Or would it require installation like eyeOS which is also an cloud computing OS?

    Why? Maybe he's off topic, but the OS is open source so I don't understand.

    Dunno. As far as I can tell, Richard Stallman is already wearing his apron and baking cookies for when Schmidth comes around looking for answers. "Here, take my cookie. I promise, by the time you're done eating it, you'll feel right as rain."

    haha. . I don't think Richard Stallman is an oracle though.

    Web OS? Reality check, please. Don't you mean "browser"?
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }
