    New Ghostbusters game is awesome

    Even with no multiplay on the PC and an InstallShield/SecuROM bug that doesn't allow you to install the game anywhere but C: drive this game is simply awesome.
    Many of the voiceovers are done by talent that will actually be in the third movie that is rumored to have a mid 2011 release date.
    If you even remotely like the Ghostbusters movie then the game is definitely for you. Excellent. Great dialogue, completely destructible environments (I was shooting stuff just to watch it explode into pieces), great story, excellent ghost catching physics, and great graphics (at least on the PC version).

    Usually games made after movies really suck but this one is a gem.

    Say WHAT!?!
    That simply puts the nail in the coffin.
    How can they even release a software with such a bug? Inexcusable.

    And considering I don't even have a C: drive on my Windows install

    The reverse is also true

    Doom, Hitman, Tomb Raider (well, the first one was okay).

    And I'm pretty sure the planned Quake movie will suck too.

    You can get it to install to a different drive but you have to tinker a bit. You can select a custom install which will fail at the end with a message about the installer being interrupted. This leaves a failed install on your drive and hoses InstallShield for this install. However you can re-install using the easy install which will go to C:. This will only copy 7 files which you can later copy into the folder you used in the custom install. After you copy these seven files to the folder you selected in custom install the game will work just fine.

    I think Terminator: Salvation had similar install issues and they were related to SecuROM and/or poor InstallShield scripts.

    And I'm pretty sure the planned Quake movie will suck too.
    I will agree most game to movie movies do suck. However since Ghostbusters was a movie first I would imagine it's third installment would be just as good as the previous two.

    I have seen a lot of very negative posts about this game on the forums but it is from people who are trying to run this game on out-dated systems and hardware or who are too dumb to own a computer system if you ask me. Guess what if the game runs crappy on max settings...um...lower them a bit. I was unable to get high shadow maps on the game due to video memory constraints. But the game looked amazing regardless so it didn't matter to me.

    The FarCry movie was the worst I've tried to watch recently, I had to quit after about 20 minutes.

    I can still vividly remember playing the very first Ghostbusters game on my Commodore 64 back in...hmmm....probably around 1985 or so? One of the first examples of digitized speech on a home computer game, a very crackly "Ghostbusters.....ha ha ha ha ha" just before the theme tune started (which featured a bouncing ball hovering in time over the lyrics). Wow, 24 years ago and it doesn't seem very far away at all....sniff....

    Yep I remember that one. We're getting old, man!
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }

    I quite fancy this game, but I'd get it for the XBox - gave up on PC gaming a while back.

    The main pull for this game is the nostalgia element. I can still remember my dad taking me to the cinema to see the first film. I always wanted to fire one of those proton packs!

    That's not even the half of it. I can remember being taken to see the first Star Wars movie (77?) and also pestering my parents for what was known at the time as a "TV Game" (pong + friends). I can still visualize everything about it....the feel of the paddles, the icons which represented each game (still see that retro style in icon design today), the console buttons (they were orange) and even the smell of it when it slid out of the box. Mind we only had it for a few months because the Atari VCS came out soon after and I was introduced to the awesome world of Defender.

    Did that, too.

    I never really got into video games much (maybe because I usually wasn't very good at them, though), being more of a board game kind of person (except for maybe Dark Tower, but I don't think that quite qualifies as one). Later on in the eighties there were some video games I liked, though, such as Joust and Gauntlet.
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }

    The cool thing about David Crane's Ghostbusters (1984) was that it was like a fun business simulation. Sort of like Sim City but with near-instant gratification. You could choose what you wanted to spend money on, if you had skill you could manage with the hearse, a couple traps and of course the Marshmallow Man bait (you couldn't possibly win without it) and make a load of money at the end and move on to the sports car so you could shoot around the map in seconds.

    It was a game that as a four year-old kid I could manage to play well, and after revisiting it via an emulator a few years ago I tried out other tactics and still enjoyed it! Proper classic.

    Does the new game involve actually running the business at all or is it just a collection of action sequences?
