The typical response to this is: Just post your questions on the forum.

A correct answer that might take a few hours (how long did it take MadCow to reply?) is much better than risking taking an incorrent answer. You might also get further explanation on the forum, and most likely a better one too. As well as different perspectives (infinite loops for example). If you're misinformed on these forums, it's most likely going to be corrected.

If you're that desperate though, http://gamedev.net usually gives quicker replies (game wise at least, I've seen some not-so-great C++ replies there).

Yeah, the amount of these topics in the past few days is ridiculous.

Maybe everyone made a new year's resolution to learn C++/make a 3D game, without realizing the effort involved?

Well, its more that they didn't realize there are at least 4 related topics on page 1/2, and too many to count in this forum titled "start game programming", "graphics programming", and "where to start".

It's not bad that new people want to learn. What *is* frightening is their apparent lack of effort and/or realization of the fact that game programming is not easy nor for the fainthearted.

that, and the fact that if you tell people they're not ready for it, you face heat from others saying you're "too harsh", and should take the time to help...
