    This is the Future

Now i am by all means not a Play Station fan boy or any thing like that so this is not something to just wave off, i have never owned one and have always supported Nintendo but you have got to see this Unreal Tournament 2007 clip from E3 being rendered on a PS3. This is Per Pixle Lighting and Shading, which you can see has never been used to the extent of this demo, so if they can pull this off, it will be great

Watch the Second video (one farthest to the right)

Now what would be even better is if Microsoft developed a version of Windows for the Playstation. Just imagine - you'd have a pretty cheap PC that way. The XBox for example has a 40GB drive (not sure if it is separate or not).

Oh and if anybody wants the link to download the small movie:

This is Per Pixle Lighting and Shading, which we all know is not possible with this genoration of gaming.
Yes it is. On the PC.

The floating point render target he is talking about is now available in DirectX 9.0c and with PS 3.0. Most newer cards already support PS 3.0 and it will allow you to render never before attainable light levels and contrasts because it uses floating point to represent the light values instead of 4 bytes.

But there is a problem either with the video or with the rendering platform. The bottom 1/3 of the screen is actually shearing away from the rest of the picture which means that either the vsync is off (prob not because this is normally found at the top 1/3 of the screen, not the bottom) or the rendering platform...ie the ps 3 is not powerful enough to really render the graphics.

Graphics are so limited on the consoles because even with high defintion TV you still will never achieve resolutions that are currently possible and plausible on PC's.

I'm not a fan of console games nor consoles themselve and I think their limited mission this mission that and limited save points have infiltrated the PC. I pay high prices for performance on my PC and the new games had better perform far better than the console version of the game by at least 10 to 1. Console is fine, but in the PC world it ruins games. There is so much memory available now and yet all we get is the same old 10 mission scramble. C'mon guys do something that taxes my PC and something that actually has...um...well.....replayability and gameplay that surpasses anything on the console market.

    So to rephrase your post.

The future is, always has been, and always will be the PC.

    Talking

The only reason PC's aren't as popular as consoles in general is their appearance....

Playstation = affordable gaming system that can fit anywhere near a TV

PC = Affordable - Incredibly expensive system that needs just short of a quarter of a small room, I.E, desk, monitor, PC, keyboard, mouse......

Obviously, unless you build a standard PC for the consumer, that is small and as compact and equally or more powerful than a console, PC's will never be as popular as the consoles....

    Three companies make Consoles
    Thousands of Companies make PC's

Difficulty to buy a computer - Difficult for newcomers, generally no matter what, Dell will screw you if you have no Idea what you are buying....

Difficulty to buy a console - A Cave man could do it, go to store, "Can I have a Playstation please?" here ya go, pay for it, done.......

But you just Can't argue, PC's will ALWAYS be more powerful, more customizable, just plain more fun than consoles, unless the consoles do the following

Get an OS that can surf the net, write word documents, play games, write a spread sheet, program applications, instant message, voice chat, video chat, email, and, of course, add customizability, but still be standardized, and be made by 2-4 companies, and of course, be small and compact

But that would essentially make the console a perfect PC though, wouldnt it?

The PC is very very good, we all know that but there is a downfall. it is hard for companies to make certian things happen, like multiple processors, becouse if you change something like that many other componets of the PC will have to change as well. So that requires the cooperation of more than one companie but with a PC this is hard to pull off becouse all of those different compaines would have to work together, which wont really happen. But on a game system it is more possible becouse it is just one companie working on it so they can make every thing work together perfectly.

Now i am not saying the Systems are Ultimately better than the computer but some of the new stuff coming out is better, look at the cell processor by Sony IBM and Toshiba.

Also, what games look that good, none, therefore it is the future of gaming

If the future is all about visuals and large corporations trying to take the prettiest screenshot, then I want out.

I second psychopath. A 'game' is the sum total of its parts and if they keep rehashing the same old crap with prettier packaging and rendering...it's still crap to me.

If all you want to do is play games or perhaps do a little web browsing without worrying about viruses and what not, then a console is perfect for you. The web browsing being added by the XBox 360 I believe.

But buying a PC is not that big of a deal. I mean sure Dell has crappy systems but then the only manufacturers I have respect for are HP and Compaq. For the price the systems are pretty decent. But the average user doesn't particularly care. All the average user wants is to browse the internet, have email, etc. I even ran into a couple that wanted to just play freecell.

Personally I wouldn't mind buying a console. But the only reason for doing so would be to install Linux on it. I'm sure somebody will be developing a distro for either the XBox 360 or the Playstation 3.

Unreal 2007 definately is the future of gaming though, just think, to play that beastly and graphically intensive of a game on a computer would mean spending 1500 dollars++ for a brand new PC to play it.... I know as a fact, my computer can't even handle Doom 3, let alone the processing required for Unreal 2007

However, on a console, its 300 bucks........

About the prettiest screenshot thing... Unreal tournament 2007 is supposedly going to feature an incredible matchmaking service as well as Voice to AI commands, sure Socom featured that but it was very limited........

The cell processors will be on the PC market very soon. Duel Core Cell Processing.

Does that mean i'll be able to find the girl of my dreams, and then blast the hell out of her with a machine gun on Unreal2k7?

Why not get a dreamcast? Lol webbrowser comes with it. To me the best console ever made was the Dreamcast, most well thought out system ever made. Awesome controller, which Xbox stole, VMU's(Visual Memory Unit), which you could store games, screensavers and other crap on it. You could browse the web, play games online. Maybe not the best selection of games, but thats not Segas fault. The only game I really played was Phantasy Star Online =D
