RoD, bubba and I are saying the same thing.
And, I ask again, are you even a programmer? I can't see how your opinion matters if you don't have any experience with this stuff.
Programming is hard. Game programming is harder. 3D game programming is extremely hard. Start small, and gradually build yourself up. That's how I have done it, that's how bubba did it, and that's how anyone that wants to be successful will do it.
When we see somebody that wants to build the next quake or halo, but has little or no programming experience, that's a red flag for someone who is obviously motivated but is likely to give up once they realize how difficult the work really is. We are trying to stop them from inevitably giving up altogether. The only way I can fathom that you don't understand this is that you have no game/graphics experience whatsoever.
