OpenGL seems to be dieing and old not many games seem to use it ecept Doom 3 and FarCry wich only use it just incase you are using a non Windows computer, should i quit OpenGL and learn Direct X ? wich seem to have alot more options and power

Nah you should ignore it all and do it in assembly
hahaha
cgod where do you come up with this stuff?
OpenGL is not dieing. It just got updated a few months ago. OpenGL is cross platform Direct3D is not. There are no speed differences.
No wonder you have 6 red blocks after 100 posts
sand_man im here to learn not to get 'reputation' i coudent care less if i had 1000 red blocks, OpenGL is not dieing ? state why you think so because everything seems to point towards this conclusion D3D is the new standard.
Yeah because D3D works on all systems.
Now lets also look at it this way: You are making a claim that "everything seems to point towards" without backing up your claim.
Sand man doesn't have to support his position initially because you haven't provided any evidence to support your claim.
i made a statement not a claim yes D3D can only be used on windows systems but who cares? i mean 96% of systems run windows.
Yeah, that will totally sell products that attitude will! You market to whom the majority is, the majority are computer users, thus using OpenGL only makes sense.Originally Posted by cgod
Also I believe Half-life2 was made in OpenGL (may be wrong there).
To code is divine
Sorry cgod if i annoyed you that wasnt my intention. I just thought It was a little funny thats all. UT2004 was written in both D3D and OpenGL (You can switch between them) Doom3 was also written in OpenGL, i could go on for ages but i fail to see the point in this.
Have a look at SDL.
Microsoft is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistant one.
Indeed you are. HL2 operates in three flavours of D3D: 7, 8 and 9. Although you still need DX9 installed to run it (Makes sense...?)Originally Posted by 7smurfs
That and the use of a 24-bit Z buffer in the engine over a 32-bit one means the performance leans towards ATI cards over nVidia's, but i digress.
