    Sonic the Hedgehog

i am working on a project to remake sonic the hedgehog, and we are still in the design phase now so i have a lot of time to think about how i am going to do things.

i was wondering what are some of your ideas for handling the terrain following ( for hilly terrain, loops, etc... ) for sonic. i have some ideas, but since i have a little while to perfect the system, id like to hear some other ideas before i start coding the thing.
I came up with a cool phrase to put down here, but i forgot it...

Just kept him perpendicular to the terrain he is on, that's all they did.

As for the specifics of how you do that...I don't know.

in sonic 2 on mega drive there is a cheat that will let you turn sonic into a ring and place rings wherever you like. You can also turn him into all sorts of tiles, specifically big blocks of terrain as well as platforms, etc. It might be worth having a search around the net and trying to find it, maybe youll get some insight into the games design.

I remember that. The "all-famous debug-mode". I miss my Genesis.

if you have any gameplay issues you can ask people on the forums at
    http://sfghq.emulationzone.org
It's a sonic fan game community, with people uploading their new sonic games everyday. Most of them use silly game makers but some use programming and can help you out.

oh and btw we should compare games when we're both finished
