Is it possible to query a secondary surface in Direct Draw for it's width and height?
IDirectDrawSurface7::GetSurfaceDesc( LPDDSURFACEDESC2 lpDDSurfaceDesc );
That function should do it for you. Remember to set the size member of the struct before calling the function.
