    Side scroller help

    Ok, now that I have a good solid connection to the internet I would once again like to work with some of you to create and finish a project.

    My first idea was a tile engine which is ok, but now I'm thinking more along the lines of a side scroller - which is a tile engine in itself. Emphasis on this project is simply finishing it - sound and all.

    The code will of course be in C/C++ using DirectX. Assembly language will be used where necessary. I'm not looking for the latest graphics or trying to program the next Unreal engine nor am I looking to create a production quality game to be sold - just a polished finished project. Two important words - polished and finished.

    I'm very serious about the project, as I was about my tile engine (sorry to all who offered to help). Some things happened in my life that were beyond my control and I lost my internet for about a year. Currently I don't foresee any problems in that area.

    Please, if you can draw tiles, characters, write story boards, etc. or know someone who can, PM me. If you wish to assist with the programming you absolutely must know C/C++. DirectX and COM knowledge would be helpful, but not necessary since you can learn as you go. As well if you wish to help with the core components of the engine, knowing some assembler would be very helpful - contrary to what some may say.

    Those who assist in this project will be given full credit for what they contribute. There is no room in this project for power hungry, egotistical, non-cooperative lone-rangers. If you do not cooperate with the team, you are out - no questions asked.

    Those of you who know me, know that I'm serious and have been wanting to start and finish a project for quite some time here on this board. Upon completion of it I would be more than happy to give it to the board as a freeware demo of some of the combined talents of the members of this board - if the board would take it.

    Perhaps this belongs on the GD board. Wasn't sure where to post it, or even if to post it, so sorry in advance mods.

    Cool, but many people aren't...

    Cool idea, and I liked how you presented your information: Very responsibly. But I think a tile engine may be the best desicion. A project with many people might be wasted on something like a
    2-d scroller. I myself am making one now. Unless you are thinking of something along the lines of mario (which I presume you are not according to your post:
    I'm not looking for the latest graphics or trying to program the next Unreal engine nor am I looking to create a production quality game to be sold - just a polished finished project
    )

    That and 2-D scrollers aren't exactly RPGs, a game genre that would require a team.

    In other words, people who can do the artwork and come up with an interesting storyline I for one can never make a story-driven game, because I very frankly lack both storytelling and drawing skills. Perhaps Bubba has the same problem? That might warrant a team

    Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I suck at drawing and thinking up stories and besides that I'm not overly experienced with programming engines (what exactly IS an engine anyways? ), so I can't help
