I like it for its ease of use, if I need to do a quick program w/ graphics.
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah
You. Fetch me my copy of the Wall Street Journal. You two, fight to the death - Stewie
Still cant figure out why it runs so badly on my pc

I miss lots of functionality, apart from that it's probably good. OO would be nice though.

Allegro is an easy-to-use game lib. Nothing less, nothing more. Well, it's easy, but there's lack of some important functions.
-Personally I don't like the timer functions.
-Also Allegro doesn't have support for TTF fonts. So you have to convert them into .pcx or .bmp or whatever.
-You can't use neither jpg nor gif pictures (you have to convert them to bmp or pcx - and they are REALLY big - 800x600 ~1MB). That means that the dat file you create with the grabber becomes bigger than your harddrive (some days ago I converted one of my old games to Allegro. It contains much graphical material - and guess what, my dat files were together over 60 MB, while the last version was only ~15 MB ).
-3D graphics you make with allegro are really ugly. Use OpenGL instead!
The thing I like with allegro is that it is really easy to initialize (comparing with OpenGL and DirectX). But that's the only positive side.
The OS requirements were Windows Vista Ultimate or better, so we used Linux.
Personally, I prefer SDL over Allegro b/c of all the addons that people make for it. I tried Allegro but I never really impressed with it due to its limited capability.
