    screenshots of your games

i'm about to get into some game dev (with directx) and i was just curious what a group of people can come up with as far as some games go. so, if you have any on hand, do you have any screenshots to post so i can get an idea of what i will be able to come up with with time and practice?

i have this idea of the games i can make, but i want to be realistic.

    thanks!

I don't have any with me, I haven't transferred my files from my old HD's. There weren't that good anyway, one was from a Mode 13h (if you don't know, that's 320x200x8 graphics mode) tile engine demo, and one was an early Allegro game I made. Most of my games end up just being demos anyway . It's hard to complete a game. I'm about to start a new game in Windows GDI where you go around stealing crap from people's houses.

the gdi? that's not one of those game/graphics parts, huh? that's just using the WinAPI to get the graphics out? but the advantages of dx or opengl is for the graphics and functionality, right? thats what i want. i want to make some nice lookin games!

as do all of us, but you gotta learn the basics first. You need to learn Win32 API somewhat b4 you start game programming. I would learn GDI as well, b4 you start with something like DX or OpenGL. No matter what people say, don't use Allegro. I don't even like SDL, but if I told you not to use that I'll have all the Linux people bashing me.

I'm assuming you use Windows, since you want to use DirectX. If you want to develop for Linux, I'd use OpenGL.

yup, windows. and i do do winapi programming and have touched upon the gdi. i will learn it more in depth now that i want to get into games. hopefully i wont have to rely too much on my artwork, because i'm not great. but, i figured that it's probably more math than art, game programming.

thanks and looking forward to those mod pics.

I've been working on that platform game since summer ( !!!!) but I made a total remake of it in late autumn. This is the second Dx game I'm doing (the first one was Balls, can be found at the site).

Due to studies, I haven't been able to work on that game too many hours a week, resulting in the long time it takes to finish it...

    Thanks for the compliments .

    question:

do all games have "engines"? like that one you made, magos, does that have an engine?

    thanks.

I think if a game is fairly large,Has input sound and graphics
capability's wich are VERY dynamic then i think we can speak
of an engine. But this requires very structerized programming
and a little independence, Meaning that you can just rip a
part of the game out and be able to use it in another game
    without too much hassle.

This is all i think, Keep that in mind.
