i wouldnt try to learn both at the same time, just pick one at first. once you know the basics it will make it easier to learn the other. doing both at the same time could get confusing.

Agreed. I'm muddled up with just DirectX 'Course, that's probably because I'm so lazy, but that's beside the point...

okay, i think i'll tackle opengl first, for the graphics, and then getting into directx should be easier to implement the sound and input and such.

    My games

OK, here's a screenshot of SpaceWars, my first game (made with Allegro a few months back):

Now a shot from SpaceWars II, the (discontinued) sequal:

And here's a compilation of screenshots from Redoubt, my latest project:

Check my site (link in sig) for some more screens of SW and SW2. There's nothing about Redoubt on there, though, as I havn't updated the site for a few months

EDIT: My bad, looks like you cant link directly to images on Tripod. Copy-paste the links in a new window to see them.

EDIT #2: grrrr...damn Tripod. I've attached the images, scroll down to see them.

Try going to my site , letting the main page load, then pasting in the link to the picture you want to see. That'd work...I think

Anyone know a good host that allows remote viewing of images?
