Game programming all in one actually goes through a lot of the stuff i already know, such as the programming language. ANd also, it says that it requires no programming experience, so i don't think i would learn much from it.

    Thanks anyway.

And i wondered why would that be? There's nothing wrong with
windows, on the controrary, Windows rocks! But there are
always some people that don't like windows having succes and
so pick linux or something, blargh to those.

I never said windows is bad, I obviously like windows because I use it. If you are going to become a professional developer you're going to have to develop on other platforms because they are becoming more popular all the time, and as I said direct3d is still a really great api

    >>I'm Shadow12345 and you were going to do direct x, then i tried convincing you to do opengl and I told you about opengl game programming and opengl superbible and glut to get you started

Glad you know your own name. I was considering DirectX, as well as opengl, and hadn't quite decided. You suggested opengl, and directed me to a book by the title of OpenGL Game Programming, but not the same one i refer too, you named two different authors.

You mentioned the SB and glut, also, but it wasn't the first time i had ever heard of these. You didn't get me started, and you didn't get me all high and mighty on opengl as you seem to give yourself credit for. You got me going on game programming heaver than i was, but this isn't the first time i ever touched the stuff.

I was leaning tword opengl and playing with it before you "got me started", don't give yourself too much credit.

    >>and I used the term direct doodle and you said it was funny and you've been using it here and there ever since (used it in your title, used it in this and other posts).

Yea its funny. Its also on alot of anti-dx sites, as well as it being a term that a classmate of mine often uses. You reminding me of it and me putting it in my title doens't mean i coined it from you.

    >>Just because said I don't like direct3d doesn't mean it's actually a bad api, in fact it's a really good api, but christ you are like going on a holy war with it.

You don't like it? Please, ask me if i care. Again this isn't the first time i ever looked into all this, and as i said i was already leaning tword opengl when you helped me decide.

I dislike DX for my own reasons, not yours. I dislike the fact that its windows limited, mainly. Giving my opinion in a game programming forum isn't a holy war, sorry that you don't see that.

    >>Likewise I have my doubts as to whether or not you have actually read the sams books yourself, or if you are just regurgitating what other people have said.

I have read more than a few sams books, and i find them poor in a few ways. For one i don't think they make good enough reference books, whereas others for the same prices do. Secondly i think they are hurried and lack clarity in some areas. There are others, but i think i made my point.

    >>Oh and RoD
    postcount != skill;

I never said my post count counted as skill. The fact that i have a high pc means nothing other than that. Its high, so what. I don't pay attention to it, i see no reason too.

    >>EDIT: and about direct3d: it happens to be an excellent api with a lot of support and continuous updates but opengl is afterall cross platform and still seems to be the more efficient (read: faster) rendering library (probably due to the fact that it is implemented by various companies) and still acts as more of a standard (the math book I just got uses opengl to show how various solutions to problems can be expressed in relation to a computer program using opengl).

    I agree, actually.

I didn't read your post it's way too long, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk about it, that's all I'm saying, it's a universal message. I try to not be a hypocrite in this category (meaning I think I do know what I'm talking about). Adios.

Right! That's the way to reward a long and explaining full post!
$%&^*&&!!! Anyway, I don't think we should compare OpenGL
with Direct3D anymore, It's an endless battle anyway.
