    Your favourite fantasy game setting?

Ok, to go along with the whole "lets get some discussion going on" idea (which i think is great), i came up with my own topic

So in a fantasy setting in a game, what is your favourite?
Maybe you like futuristic sci-fi type fantasy, or the good ol' medieval setting.

It can depend a lot on what you want the game to be about - ie, a medieval setting wil have swords and one on one combat, whereas a futuristic setting, might have more advanced weaponary whereby you dont have such one on one combat that is close up.

So lets here some ideas of what people like - maybe your favourite game that shows off what you like, or something new that you would like to see in a game setting?

    Alright, that's the spirit, fry.

I'd have to say my favorite game setting would be the setting that goes through time. It starts off in an ancient setting like (ancient Egypt times), then slowly progresses along into the current time. This gives me the feeling of how I've been able to go through all of the times. This is really good in tbs games, which I especially like, because it lets you see how your empire evolve over history. I guess pretty much like the Civilization series. So I guess overall I like a setting that evolves over time from an older period to the modern period. But I'd say that my two favorite time settings overall out of the whole history period would be the turn from bc to ad time era and the time era around WW2. Mainly in part because those are the two time periods in real history that I'm the most intrigued by.

    Hmmmmmm I guess I got a little off-topic there but that's ok.

EDIT: hey, thanks for putting me in your sig

My favourite setting would be the one exactly like Final Fantasy 8.

Going through time, that reminds me of Chrono Trigger. I like the setting of FFVII, it was sort of modern, they had cars and motorcycles and such, but they still fought with swords. FFIX was pretty cool, overall my favourite character is Vivi from that game.

Anyone ever play Total Annihilation? That game came with my computer, I use to play it all the time. If you don't know, it is a RTS game with robots, really nice.

Yeah, i have to agree that FFVII setting was great. I didnt much liek the futuristic setting in 8. It has some alright ideas in there, but something about it didnt appeal to me.

Slowly moving through time can be interesting, but i dunno. I've only seen it work well in Civilisation. As a side track of this, Timesplitters two has a varitaion of this.

Anyway, my personal favourite is a medieval approach. I know its been done to death, but i love the whole ancient swords and mythology and stuff. Rather interesting i think.

And about the sig, no prob You may be happy to know that your thread of all the allegro stuff got me into it to start with, so it wasnt in vain And now im on to writing my nice rpg, which is going along well
