You cannot make a game with the syllable 'tris' in it. Nintendo does own that, however, they do not own the idea of falling blocks. You could have a game called Tetrix and it could be an almost exact clone of Tetris and it wouldn't be infringing a copywright. If you released it you would probably get a lawsuit, but you might win.
I had a feeling that they owned at least half of that name....It's now called something else, but now I got to change the sufix....darnit....does anyone know if you patent a video game, or can you just copyright (which I think you can only do to a game)?
DUDE SLAM ON BRAKES!
You actually want to buy a patent and copyrights for you r game?
Oh Good Lord....
Nope...not right now at least....I'm just curious on that subject
Well as far as a patent...
(hey im only 15 so deal with me here)
I believe you have to be "granted a patent".
And as for copyrights... those just protect the actual names and text of the game...
That's what I thought about the patent....but didn't know about the copyright part....thanks.
Im not positive about those things so dont take my word for it..
Ok, thanks still though
If you don't register your 'creation' with the copyright office for US$20, you can file a lawsuit, but not for damage money. Anyways, anyone can make a combination of Tetris and Pong, you don't own the idea.
Thanks...I know anyone can make it, but I don't want the name stolen if this by some mericle gets big
ANNOUNCEMENT:
The new name for my program is called BreakTrux.....and now to do the rest.....one question though, does anyone wanna help me on the lines of sound (I suck in this area)? Whoever helps will get credit for their work.
what kinda sounds do you need?
Preferably some normal sounds like bing, boom, and the stuff, and a few background music
A search on google with the right keywords could probably get something that would allow you to download sounds for free. Or do you want them to be original 'cause you're gonna patent your game, as you say.

That's the first thing I got at google. It's sound effects.
