Lightbulb Secure Distribution For My Game?

My first thought was too have every copy come with a built in activation code and a function would recognize whether or not that is the correct activation code. So I'd be sending the game along with the activation code to each one of my buyers.

But I'm guessing having a database of codes would be better? However, I don't know if I want to go through and learn a language that can be capable of handling an online database or server to do so.

    Any thoughts guys?

There is no such thing as secure distribution, sadly.
Pirates will always find a way around any kind of DRM if they are motivated enough, ie. most often meaning if your game becomes popular or not.
Consider these examples (I use Microsoft, Apple and Blizzard because they are huge corporations who can afford to spend tons of money on DRM)
Windows uses a serial code and online activation which checks that your hardware matches any previous activations. Doesn't stop windows from being pirated.
osX checks your hardware to make sure it's a genuine Apple computer. Doesn't stop osX from being pirated.
World of Warcraft is strictly online play on Blizzards servers. Doesn't stop WoW from being pirated and played on emulated servers.

If you use to much / to invasive DRM you are only going to scare away legit customers. But software pirates will always find a way around it.

If it doesn't suck, put it on Steam for cheap.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Yeah, definitely. Do you know a way of limiting how much your software does get pirated? I know there's really no way of having it completely secure, but how would you go about in making it more secure? Lmao.

For absolute security... do not put your products on-line and ship blank CDs...

That is, the only way to be 100% certain nobody is ripping you off is to never distribute your software.

Well, either that or give it away as freeware...
