map syntax

been a long time since I've programmed in C++, and even longer since I've started a thread here. anywho:

why is this ok:

std::map<std::string, std::map<std::string, std::string> > values;

and this not:

std::map<std::string, std::map<std::string, std::list<std::string> > > values;

As long as I include list and string, it compiles fine.
